After the NS&I announcement about slashing their rates, I have speedily withdrawn my money and put it in a high (as high as you can get right now) savings account with Coventry Building Society instead. Coventry is all signed up to Open Banking and are on the Regulated Providers list. Are they on your list to add to Snoop please (and if so, how high up that list are they)?
I’ve also got a Principality Building Society account (also higher rates) but I know they’re not signed up to Open Banking yet. One day…
Hi @charlwillis they are on our longer list, but I’m afraid there are several others before we get to them and it won’t be this year before they are enabled.
We are adding banks based on customer demand - and we validate that demand based on the survey in our app that you see if you tap on ‘my bank is not listed’.
We then work through anyone who has Open Banking interfaces available based on this demand.
Sadly @Thermopyl they are one of the few providers who are still not supporting Open Banking through secure interfaces (called APIs). They only support something called ‘Screen Scraping’ which means you have to share your security credentials to any app or service that you want to connect with.
We are not fans of this method at all and currently we are not looking to support it.
It’s only a very small number of providers like this - Metro, Co-Op and JL card are the ones we are most frequently asked about. We hope all of these last few providers will change their mind based on customer demand - especially and as the negatively standout compared to their competitors.
Hi. New customer to Snoop today. Amazing app, really love it.
Only account missing for me is my IHG credit card from Creation. I see from this thread Creation are due imminently. Any news on when they’ll be added?
Almost all my spends go on this card so really keen to hook it up.
We are ready to go with Creation and we’ve had them connected to our test environments. I actually have an IHG card through Creation so I’m as keen as you are on this one
Sadly our testing proved that the balance numbers being returned from Creation were wrong. They were only giving us the ‘total available credit’ and that’s not the number most people would want to see on their Snoop homepage.
They are working on a fix now and we hope it will be made available to us very soon. Once we have this in place, we will switch-on.
So hopefully we are talking a small number of weeks at most.
Monzo Pots require some bespoke development that we haven’t tackled yet. These products are not part of the standard Open Banking style interfaces (the ‘pot’ feature is really just relevant to Monzo and Starling who have similar approaches).
We do want to do this eventually and we will update everyone as soon as it’s possible.
Paul
Hello team Snoop! I hope you are all well.
Is there any sign of Think Money being added any time soon, please?
I can add my Credit Cards but not my current account.
Hi @kitanajane I’m afraid it’s not great news on Think Money.
Banks normally have some sort of developer portal / website where they explain what interfaces they have available if they fully support Open Banking. I’ve not been able to find one for Think Money.
And, they are often registered as part of the UK Open Banking programme - but they don’t appear to have done that either:
So it’s not looking promising for anytime soon I’m afraid.
Paul
Hi @Giwaff we’d love to connect with many of those listed.
NS&I and Marcus are often requested, but sadly neither provide access to their accounts via technical interfaces (APIs) at this time. You will see higher up in the thread some information shared by NS&I that suggests they might do it eventually.
Out of the others you mention, we are only aware that PayPal have some sort of technical interface. However, they are not offering UK standard Open Banking interfaces.
We will certainly be looking to connect with as many as possible in future.
Hi @Aitchen , we’d love to connect with banks like these, but I’m afraid right now none of the ones you’ve listed currently offer the interfaces we use to connect (Open Banking APIs).
All banks that offer Current Accounts and Credit Cards have to provide these interfaces. However, only certain types of savings accounts fall under these same rules. Those savings accounts that are classed as ‘Payment Accounts’ (which normally means you can transfer money from that account to any external source) are in scope for these rules.
We hope that as Open Banking continues to gain popularity, customer demand or regulatory changes will eventually mean these types of products will be accessible too.
